About Our Data

About the Data
EquiCite is built on a curated dataset of open-access publications authored by scholars at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). We organize this research by institution, discipline, and topic to make it easier for anyone — students, researchers, journalists, or policymakers — to explore and engage with.

Why this matters:

  • Visibility – HBCU research is often underrepresented in mainstream databases and citation networks.

  • Accessibility – Our platform makes these works easy to search, filter, and cite without specialized tools.

  • Impact – By surfacing this body of knowledge, we help ensure that HBCU contributions are recognized in academic, policy, and cultural conversations.

Our dataset continues to grow as more HBCU scholarship is published and indexed. EquiCite is committed to maintaining transparency and accuracy in how research is presented, while centering the institutions and scholars who create it.
